Well, I got around and made an example image with lighting. This utilizes gaussian blur, diffuse and specular lighting and feCompose modes arithmetic and in.
hey, that's cool, why don't you upload the svg to share/examples?
actually we need a lot more examples, ideally one file for each filter (showing all kinds of ways to use it) plus a "composite" example file with several effect compositions...
